Three duct specifications cover essentially the whole industrial exhaust range. The aluminium structure, guy system, base and installation method are identical in all three — so the choice in front of you is narrow, and it is entirely about what comes out of your process.

What each duct is made of, and what it is for

Option A Lowest installed cost

Silicone-coated E-glass

Silicone elastomer inside and out on a woven E-glass base. The right answer when the stream is warm rather than hot and the chemistry is undemanding — which describes most building services and light process exhaust. Specifying anything harder here is money spent on resistance you will never call on.

Do not specify Option A for

Concentrated mineral acids, continuous operation above 230 °C, or streams carrying abrasive particulate. Those are Option B and C territory and silicone will not survive them.

PTFE inner, PVDF outer, E-glass base

Teflon® on the inside is chemically inert to essentially every acid an industrial process produces, and holds 260 °C continuously. Kynar® PVDF on the outside is architectural-grade weathering protection with 25 to 30 years of outdoor stability, which means no exterior maintenance across the whole life of the duct. Most industrial exhaust lands here, and it is where the cost-per-year is lowest.

Why this is the default recommendation

PTFE removes chemistry from the risk register almost entirely, and PVDF removes weathering. What is left is a duct with a 12 to 18 year life and no maintenance in between — which on a 20-year view beats both the cheaper and the more exotic option.

Option C Abrasive plus chemical

ECTFE on para-aramid, PVDF outer

A Kevlar® para-aramid base with a Halar® ECTFE liner, for the streams that are chemically aggressive and abrasive at the same time — the combination that wears a glass-based fabric through from the inside. Rated to FM 4922. Note the trade-off honestly: ECTFE buys you abrasion and H₂S resistance, and costs you temperature.

Two things to know before you specify it

ECTFE is limited to 150 °C continuous — above that with abrasive particulate, no catalogue option applies and we will work the problem with you. And Halar® is sole-sourced from Solvay, so lead time on a replacement duct is managed rather than assumed. We will tell you the current figure when you enquire.

Figures are for a 7 m installed height at 1,000 mm nominal internal diameter. Heights from 3 to 30 m and diameters from 200 to 1,500 mm are standard; anything outside that is an engineering conversation rather than a catalogue entry.

Custom geometry

Heights to 30 m and diameters to 1,500 mm are within the standard structural envelope. Beyond that the guy geometry and vortex-shedding assessment drive the design and we quote it individually.

Mixed streams

Where a plant vents several processes into one stack, the duct is specified for the worst-case combination rather than the average. Send us all of them.

What arrives

Two Euro-pallets: skeleton modules, guy assemblies, base module, the rolled duct, the tensioning tool and gauge, fixings, and the installation and commissioning pack.
